All Good Things Come to Those Who Plan

The main mission strategy at Newport Presbyterian Church in
2007 was to make their sacred space more welcoming to new members, to
attract younger families, and to better accommodate people with disabilities. To meet that goal, it was decided to make major renovations
to the sanctuary, fellowship hall, and entryway. This expansion allowed their
congregation to add a second Sunday morning service. This second service is
less formal and designed to appeal to a younger demographic.
The sanctuary underwent major renovations, including lowering the front of the sanctuary so that it can be used in a more flexible way. They switched to a movable communion table, baptismal font, and pulpit which adds to the flexible nature of the new design. A new sounds system was added along with a retractable screen which can be used during the informal service and hidden away when not needed.
Many upgrades were made to improve access for the disabled, including the installation of a new ramp in the sanctuary allowing ALL to be involved in worship leadership. Handicap accessible bathrooms were added near the fellowship hall.
Renovation of the Fellowship Hall allowed the church to expand their social and educational facilities. Adding movable walls makes the hall more multi-functional, and provide for space that can be used for receptions, classes, and a variety of other uses. Long overdue maintenance issues were addressed, and the heating systems was upgraded to make it more energy efficient.
